Contextual Studies.

I have finish all the video editing with about a week to go. The duration of the whole documentary is about 9 mins. Although the time limit was 5 mins but I think adding 4 mins to the video will be worth the watch.  I only put subtitles at the clips which is hard to understand and the ones that the person reply's in BM. I also already added my own narration to few section of the video and gave credit to all the person that I interview and others that helped me long the way. Since i have extra time, I just did i simple cover for the CD since we have to burn the video into a CD. Just for the sake of making it look nicer.

Week 15

Post Production Stage.

This is the stage that we all should begin to edit our videos and make minor improvements. Mr Charles showed some sample documentary and explain what made it interesting.

Challenges face:

I did email a few local clothing designers but 4 out of 5 replied that they were not interested to do an interview due to timing issues. Either that or they dont reply at all even if i follow up. For now i do have specific people i do want to interview. Although by this time there should not be any more filming. I feel that these last interviews will really help increase the content in my documentary.

Documentary Story Line

Intro:

I  studied other documentary to see how they make their intro. Theres alot of suspen in the clips which pulls the audience to continue watching. The intro is one of the most important aspect because it give a first impression of the whole story/movie.

Reference:

I plan to do my intro with abit more narration and tell the story of clothes and tshirt in general then divert into the story of Malaysian clothing. The main questions in my documentary is "What makes a local clothing line worthy of calling themselves a local clothing brand ?" Is it just because its produce by Malaysian or is it because of the design that is presented on the product ?

Body:

The story of Tempatan Fest. How it started, why is started and where does it plan to go.

 - Interview 1.
-Tour of products at TF Kuantan.
 - Interview 2.
 - Other Clips

 - Narration

 -Product tour TF Ipoh
 - Interview 3
 - Narration
 - Other Clips
 - Interview 4

Conclusion:

The summerise version of the answers and my own opinion and interpretation.

Progress.

Progress.

I watch again most of  my clips and i feel that can documentary may run away from the timeline abit but thats not the biggest issue. After hearing back the question's ive asked, the earlier questions that i asked a few people during the TF in Kuantan on the 28th Feb '15 was quite simple. But after I consulted with Mr Charles, I came out with a serials of harder question which manage to asked 1 person when i was in TF Ipoh on the 4th of April '15. I think while editing i need to do alot of narration and tell more story about my whole documentary.

So far this is my best interview yet. Because i think that he answered my questions very confidently and he answered it well. Though the sad part is that the question that I manage to ask him were the simple ones. but still i feel that this video is my strongest content.

There were alot of other designer that i wanted to interview so I didnt have the chance to because they were not willing to do it. I cant force them.

I manage to get to interview the founder of Tempatan Fest himself but at that time i didnt expect to had the chance to, so my question was every impromptu. The sad part was the mic wasnt pluged in properly so the sound quality is not that good. I will hv to edit the sound and hop for the best.

I did however, do a sort of intro on where i was and what was going on but most of the other thing im going to say will be narrated.

For this particular brand, the guy agreed to be interviewed but he didnt wish to show his face on camera. so what i did was I only recorded his voice. BUT. hahahahaha. the funny part was that my cousin didnt know that i didnt record his face on purpose so, at 1 point my cousin accidentally pointed the camera at his face. I dont know if I should use that clip of his face. but out of respect i dont think I would. then again I might change my mind.

Mr Buzz Walker

So on the 21st April we were asked to attend a talk about the design world from a familiar face. Mr buzz was our our outside indivisulator last sem for our final CTS action figure. I wasnt looking forward to the talk so much honestly but i would do anything for tags and extra points. When the talk started i started to actually listen to what he said and even though he was talking about art history and all but it was not that boring. He knows how to make it fun and plus he was talking about his own journey as a designer and how he comes out with his ideas. I didnt even mind about the history part because he was talking about Malaysia art history and I find it very interesting and I was actually shock that I, myself was paying attention to what he said. By the way he talks and he presents, we all can tell that he is very experience and he knows how to deal to students our age. In the afternoon he made us drew on the spot. He asked us to draw any part of the room and look at it in a different perspective. I would love to share my drawing but for the safely of your eyes, i better not. According to some people my drawing looked like a down syndrome racoon and it was suppose to be a picture of Arieff. Overall i really enjoyed my day.

Week 9 (Pre-Production)

Tempatan Fest Ipoh.

I manage to get alot of product footage but not that many interviews. Reason being most of the sellers didnt want to be interviewed and one of the person that i interview was willing to answer few of my questions but he didnt want to be seen on camera so i just recorded audio and ill edit it with the short footage i took. At this point im really scared that i dont have enough footage and i feel that with the answer from who was willing to answer my questions my video will be over 5 mins. Other than that, i think im on track in terms of time management.

Pre Production Stage

Contextual Studies
(Week 9) : Pre-Production

The Power of Contextual Narratives.

For a Documentary it is important for the video footage to have an emotional connection with the audience (Strong Story) and also good communication with the community.

Design is something that connects to the audience. ex: -Trends, Popularation and etc.

The major question is,

What is your Documentary ?
The Story behind the design.

Does these local clothing line has impact to society ? How does it stay connected with social communities.

What are the steps ? Do these local clothing designer study the trends and in things to design OR are the design produce is based on the type of art the designer has and hope that locals can adapt to it ?

The Basic Story Line.

Exposition - to reveil, to show. Basically to tell an introduction about what are local clothing line ?
what makes a local clothing line, local ?

Confrontation - The Question, the presentation, the history behind it. So its about the things we want to know. These is the stage that we ask and gather infos about what we want to know about a brand, the type of style and other things.

Resolution - The Answers, the solution, further hope and opinions. Its about results and the knowledge we gain after the interviews and we make a conclusion and give our own opinion on local clothing lines and their designs.

Pre production phase is also about themes. The mood you want to set on the audience,

So what are possible themes ?

Its about making the movie interesting and not just about facts but added with a touch on fun and suspend. Always keep the audience on the edge on their seats wondering what are the answer to their question and etc....

- Things about the opening part that has to be taken precaution of are - transsision, camera angles, body language and words said. Play with the visual rhetorics. Make space and shoot at creative angle to get your audience attention.

Questions that i asked during Tempatan Fest in PORT Ipoh.

For the customers was the same questions.

Week 6

Word of the Week: Persuasion

The word Persuasion to me means to talk to someone and convince your audience to believe what you have said.

Dictionary: Persuasion is an umbrella term of influence. Persuasion can attempt to influence a person's beliefs, attitudes, intentions, motivations, or behaviors.

Images With Strong Meaning.

To me it means that violence is never the answer to a question. People should always answer their problem with kindness and use their brain before they decide to do things that they will regret.

This picture tries to tell their audience that by buying leather items and other animal products it is actually harming many different types of animals in the world.

Designing something is much more harder compared to actually executing it. It doesnt take a dean's list student to think of great ideas. Great ideas sometimes comes from the lease person you would expect. This picture, to me is telling that creativity and ideas is all subjective and everyone has their own style and all the power are in their hands to make the change in the world of creativity and ideation.
